Michele Thompson is a dedicated special education teacher and occupational therapist with over 30 years of experience serving students with significant cognitive disabilities. She currently teaches in the Elementary Life Skills program at Fort Washakie Elementary in Fremont County School District #21. With 18 years in special education and a strong background in occupational therapy, Michele brings a passion for innovation, instructional technology, assistive technology and inclusive practices to her classroom.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Colorado State University (1991), a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction: Special Education (2007), and a Master’s in Instructional Technology (2012), both from Grand Canyon University.
Named District Teacher of the Year in 2023 in Niobrara County School District #1, Michele has contributed to state-level initiatives including the Wyoming Extended Content Standards, alternate assessment reviews, and Level-Up. She also serves on the Wyoming Governor’s Behavioral Health Advisory Council and is an advocate for students impacted by trauma, adoption, and mental health needs. Michele is committed to empowering students and colleagues through leadership, collaboration, and creative problem-solving.
