Introduction
Educational systems nationwide are searching for innovative ways to create positive, lasting change that impacts educational and life outcomes for the communities they serve. Three years ago, in a small rural school system, a literacy leadership team decided that the best innovation in early childhood (ages 3-6) was to bring in evidence-based protocols for oral language screening and instruction.  In this session, you’ll learn about how a leadership decision by the literacy leadership team and teachers leading the way has impacted:

Session Objectives
  • Explain how early oral language screening contributes to timely identification of language development risks in children
  • Describe how integrating oral language instruction within an MTSS framework supports both word reading and language comprehension.
  • Evaluate the implementation process and impact of a valid oral language screener and a Tier 1 oral language curriculum through a rural case study example.
Credit Reflection Questions: Applying Learning to Practice
  • What new insights did you gain from the presentation, and how did they connect to your existing knowledge or experience?
  • In what ways did the presentation deepen or enhance your understanding of the topic?
  • How do you plan to apply what you learned in your work? Who will benefit from it, and what changes or improvements do you expect to see?
